Course Overview

This specialization program will prepare you to lead HVDC projects, in 22 sessions you will learn the basic principles about electrical power system; understand the evolution of HVDC, its components, configurations, and different topologies; discover the diverse applications of HVDC technology in various geographical contexts (Asia, Europe, South America and North America); design HVDC converter stations, select and define technical; learn about HVDC cables and transmission lines specifications of components; perform HVDC system modeling in PSCAD software; Interpret grid codes and standards applicable to HVDC systems; study the control and protection systems in HVDC and analize integration studies for HVDC systems.

The specialization program has 6 principal objectives.

  • Interpret grid codes, international HVDC regulations
  • Learn about HVDC cables and transmission lines
  • Design HVDC stations, select and define technical specifications of components
  • Perform HVDC system modeling in PSCAD software
  • Study the control and protection systems in HVDC
  • Analyze specialized applications and integration studies for HVDC

Upon successful completion of this program, Inel grants a certificate of completion for 44 chronological hours; and IEE Credentialing Programs certificate 4.4 CEU or 44 PDH.

To obtain a certificate of completion for IEEE Credentialing Program and Inel – Escuela Técnica de Ingeniería, students must achieve a 70% attendance rate at the live online classes, submit a final project with guidance of the instructor and to approve evaluations.

     

You are expected to spend approximately 4 hours / 2 sessions per week learning this program. This program is conformed by 22 sessions and lasts approximately 4 months.

This program is run online and has a focus on practical methodological leanrning, with practical and real cases, and apllications of specialist softwares such as PSCAD software

  • Specialist in HVDC transmission controls, simulations, dynamic systems modelling, control systems, nonlinear systems stability analysis and control.
  • More than 12 years of xperience in HVDC transmission proyects, focusing on HVDC transmission, specifically in Bipole 1 and 2 HVDC links, including their controls and protection replicas, and RTDS simulation and modeling.
